Former Cambridge Professor Jason Arday Found Dead at 41 as Family and Academic Community Mourn

LONDON — Jason Arday, the former University of Cambridge professor who made history as the university’s youngest-ever Black professor, has died at the age of 41.

Arday was found unresponsive at an address in Battersea, south London, on Friday afternoon, August 14. The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to the property by the London Ambulance Service at approximately 3:12 p.m.

A 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

The Metropolitan Police said the death is currently being treated as unexpected and not suspicious, with officers from the Met’s Central South Command Unit investigating and preparing a file for the coroner.

There has been speculation that Arday’s death may have involved an overdose, but authorities have not publicly confirmed a cause of death, and that detail should not be treated as established fact while the investigation and coroner’s processes continue.

A Remarkable Academic Journey

Arday’s career was once regarded as an extraordinary story of perseverance and achievement.
